Intertrust and EVIO Announce World’s First Commercial ExpressPlay CA-based Content Protection System for Digital TV Operators

EVIO will showcase the system at Intertrust’s booth at IBC2017 (Hall 5, Booth 15)

IBC Amsterdam, NL— September 15, 2017 — Intertrust Technologies Corporation and EVIO Polska today announced the world’s first open standard-based digital TV distribution system built on Intertrust’s new ExpressPlay CA™. This system, eDRM™, is available from EVIO to TV operators, ISPs and content distributors who wish to use a modern, future proof, cost effective, and secure end-to-end content distribution system.

“Intertrust is proud to partner with EVIO as our launch partner for ExpressPlay CA, incorporated into EVIO eDRM,” said Kenny Huang, General Manager for Intertrust Media Solutions. “We have worked together with EVIO for years to field disruptive media solutions and they are an outstanding innovator. Today, EVIO is in a position to offer a world-class eDRM content protection system based on our joint collaboration over these many years.”

Using ExpressPlay in eDRM, EVIO is able to provide extremely cost-effective and industry-friendly media protection, replacing the need for an expensive and often cumbersome, traditional CAS. EVIO’s platform can service a broad variety of clients and apps including, HbbTV clients, Smart TV, Set Top Boxes, and mobile devices.

“From its foundation, EVIO has sought to help improve Pay Television by providing a modern platform that provides cost-effectiveness, functionality and efficiency to operators,” said Przemysław Gnitecki EVIO CEO. “Of course, we have always turned to Intertrust for content protection technology as we believe that open standards-based technologies, such as ExpressPlay CA, provide the most secure and future proof solutions for the market.”

EVIO offers a range of implementation models for eDRM, including a zero capex investment model using EVIO cloud services. eDRM can co-exist with legacy CA systems and can use the same infrastructure, enabling operators to migrate to the new technology at their own pace. “The legacy CA model is unsustainable. eDRM offers a better commercial proposition: All included, eDRM costs half of an equivalent CA-based system,” said Przemyslaw. To date, eDRM has been extensively deployed all over Poland to a number of Pay TV operators.

EVIO is demonstrating eDRM at IBC2017 at the RAI in Amsterdam on the Intertrust stand in Hall 5, Booth 15 between September 15-19, 2017.
